Storm Safety & Video for Kansas
These are the things I’m doing to prepare for the storms. They are different than yours may be, as I will be out in the storms and may be called to help in any response to a storm-impacted community I’m close to. I’ve highlighted the things I think are important for anyone to do before a major storm.
SPC has posted an infographic concerning the meaning of their five-tier system for communicating storm risk in their outlooks. Our terminology matches SPC and our usage is generally identical. However, the areas we serve are different, which can lead to occasional discrepancies.
With high-end severe weather in the forecast and more undoubtedly just around the corner, it is (past) time to make sure your storm shelter is stocked and ready to go!
The Kansas skies are good for more than just storm watching. Woke up early this morning and took my son, an astronomy major, my youngest daughter and two of my nephews out to the Lake Afton Observatory to check out the total lunar eclipse.
One person has already died this year due to a tornado in the US. I hope that’s all there is. Did you know lighting, in a normal year, will kill more people in the US than tornadoes? The lightning safety rules have changed in recent years…this video explains what you should to to stay safe.
Who are you? Why are you here? Where are you most of the time? Why aren’t you writing about Wednesday’s storms?
