We should be peaking at about 75 this time of year. Instead, we're baking at around 90 today, with record highs expected tomorrow in the mid and upper 90s. Gusty southwest wind develops by tomorrow afternoon, increasing fire danger substantially.

Some weak upper ridging is expected to pass over the Southern Plains today which will provide continued sunshine and above normal temps. It will be a hot one for football tonight, as a large area of southwest flow brings warm air into the region this evening and overnight. Air conditioners will be working hard tomorrow as records are likely to fall in the afternoon due to strong southwest wind the 20-30 mph range with gusts 35 to 40 mph, with the highest speeds over southern KS. Lowest afternoon humidity values are expected to be 15-20%. Very high grassland fire danger is expected, with some pockets of extreme danger.
