KSStorm.Info Briefing: May 12, 2022

Milder weather is on the way behind a cold front which clears most of the state tonight before stalling out. Some storms along the fonrt could produce large hail.

Hot weather continues, but a few will see rainfall late today and tonight. A severe storm can’t be ruled out. A line of storms is expected to form in northwest Kansas and move into central Kansas this afternoon into tonight. Here’s one model’s forecast (admittedly, the most optimistic model in terms of rainfall).

We’re believe the line will stay mostly north of highway 56, but areas north of Highway 50 are included in a slight risk area for severe storms. Impact would be heavy rain and some large hail.

Storm chances move into eastern Kansas  tomorrow.

Models are consistent in showing a nighttime severe risk Saturday night, but exact location of the storm cluster is still unclear. For that reason, we expect the slight risk area to be modified as we get closer to Saturday evening.
